The story of Zumba!
What is Zumba?
Zumba is a Latin-inspired dance fitness program created by dance and choreapgrapher Alberto “Beto” Perez in Colombia during the 1990s.
This dance workout is currently one of the most popular and exciting dancing work outs in the world. It is a “fitness phenomona”. The best way to explain this Latin inspired dance routine is to compare it to being in a swank nightclub, dancing your heart away.
Zumba involves dance and aerobic elements. the program combines Latin and international music with dance to make exercise fun.
It is rumoured that Zumba is Spanish slang for “to move fast and have fun”. It is definitely FUN!
Zumba exercises include music with fast and slow rhythms and resistance training for fitness and losing weight. The music comes from the following dance styles: cumbia, salsa, merengue, mambo, flamenco, chachacha, reggaeton, soca, samba, belly dancing, bhangra, hip hop music, axe music and tango.
How it works
We take the “work” out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Once the Latin and World Rhythms take over, you’ll see why Zumba Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise. Super effective & fun – you can start at any level moving at your own pace. Very soon, seduced by the music, you’ll find yourself sweating and having a great workout. The secret is to just let yourself go with the flow!
A total workout, combining elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, boosting energy and a serious dose of feeling awesome each time you leave class.
Zumba and weight loss
What makes Zumba classes outstanding is that they incorporate a combination of fitness/aerobic interval training which makes it an effective fat burning workout. You have the ability to burn 100s of calories in one session. So a couple of classes a week alongside a calories controlled diet should help you to work towards your weight loss goals, although burning calories is not the only thing that this aerobic workout does for you. It also helps to reshape your body – in just the right places – by focusing on your legs, butt, shoulders, arms, ab muscles and your core.
A quick dance workout will have you feeling energized, and you’ll quite literally – Dance All Your Problems Away.
